Never thought orange and purple would go together - till I saw this butterfly.

These pictures were taken at the same time as the Randell Pond pictures were taken.  In fact they were taken in the parking lot across from the Randall Pond Trail Head.

I walked over to take a close up of the thistle itself and was greeted with a multitude of flying butterflies, bees and other insects.

While I continued to stand quietly in the center of the patch, they soon settled down and began eating again.  Then I was able to start taking their photos. Read the rest of this entry »

Beauty Hidden on Busy Long Island

Randall Pond Nature Trail is one of the “off the beaten path” places. I would dare say that many - if not a majority - of the Long Island residents do not know it exists.

While walking along this trail, it is so easy to forget the hustle and bustle of our every day lives and just relax and explore.  Even though the highway is a stone’s throw from this beautiful pond, you can lose yourself in the beauty that nature offers us.

So next time you are in the area, check out this little forgotten piece of paradise located in Suffolk County, Long Island, New York.

Sherril Barnes was born in Ankara, Turkey during the time her father, career Army, was stationed there.  After returning to the United States with her family, Sherril’s life was still full of moves and travels as her father was stationed in different areas of the country.  After her father retired, the traveling continued in a 27-foot travel trailer; Sherril and her siblings spending one semester in a certain area and then moving to another.  This traveling showed Sherril the beauty in the world around her — no matter where she is at. 11 Steps To Organizing Your EmailI was going through my emails this morning and realized that I have not written to any of my yahoo groups in a while. So, I started wading through my inbox to read all the emails and find ones that I wanted to respond to. What a chore! So many mails!

Suddenly, I realized that I could be organizing them to make life easier. After all, Outlook allows you to setup rules. So, I set up the rules for my three outlook groups and now I can easier browse through all my emails and not miss anything important. Each folder shows the number of unread messages —- very simple!
