Midnight Oils, Mills Pond Gallery, Smithtown, New York

My work has been accepted into another juried art show.  This one, sponsored by the Smithtown Arts Council, is entitled Midnight Oils, a fine arts exhibition celebrating frightening subject matters cast in a philosophic, romantic, or humorous light.  Juror Alain Khadem, a Long Island-based artist, choose my piece along with 31 other pieces from the 1000s of works that were submitted from local, national and international artists.

The exhibit will be on view at The Mills Pond House Gallery in St. James, October 4 – November 1, 2008. The public is invited to an opening reception Saturday, October 11, 5-7 pm to meet exhibiting artists and view their work.  I hope to meet some of my blog readers there.

While I will not share the work that has been accepted into the show, I will tell you that I choose to exhibit death in a romantic light.  Come see the exhibit - and if you can’t, I will post my work here after the show.

As I previously posted, I had a piece of work accepted into the Juried art show “Summer on Long Island” held at the Long Island Museum in Stony Brook, New York.

I did not receive an award for my piece - but being one of the 109 pieces chosen from thousands of entries was an honor enough.  So which piece hung in the gallery?

Long Island Museum in Stony Brook, New YorkThe Long Island Museum in Stony Brook, New York has chosen one of my photos to hang in the juried art show “Summer in Long Island”. I am so thrilled and honored.

The awards reception is on August 17th from 2pm - 4pm. And the finalist show will run from August 17th thru September 1st. The winning pieces of art will continue to be displayed thru September 21st.

Come see me and the other artists on August the 17th or make a little time to visit the museum while the show is hanging.

I will post my photo and an article about the reception later this month.

When Alexander the Great visited Diogenes and asked whether he could do anything for the famed teacher, Diogenes replied: ‘Only stand out of my light.’ Perhaps some day we shall know how to heighten creativity. Until then, one of the best things we can do for creative men and women is to stand out of their light.
