Today’s Visions

Photography that captures today’s visions for tomorrow’s memories

Photography

Red Carpet - Photograph by Sherril BarnesTypically, when a person thinks on death they think of - darkness, dust and worms. The thoughts provoke fear and discomfort. While in Middle Island, New York I saw this tombstone and just knew I had to take the shot.

Futures - Photograph by Sherril Barnes. 2nd Place winnerThis photograph was taken on the streets of Soho, New York, New York. I tried to take pictures of the city to expand my portfolio but could not seem to pickup the emotion I felt there. The excitement, the stress, the never-stop rush that I always feel when I am there. Unfortunately, when I tried to photograph the buildings and area the photos seemed cold - indifferent. Not at all what I was trying to achieve. Until I took this shot! Read the rest of this entry »

Choosing the right pumpkin is very important

The Long Island Museum and King Kullen teamed up for a Family Fun Day to celebrate the fall and Halloween on October 26th, 2008.  The Long Island Museum staff worked hard to setup a safe fun place for families to gather and enjoy the day.  And the weather could not have been better!  Sunny - warm.  A beautiful fall afternoon.

Children of all ages came to the festival in full costume costume for trick-or-treating, pumpkin painting, hay wagon rides and the petting zoo. As an added treat Leonora Knight dramatized songs that celebrated books using the children as the main performers in her Halloween show.

View of Randall Pond in fall Glory

Everyone who reads my posts knows how much I love Randall Pond with it beautiful water reflections, the great assortment of animals and insects, the beautiful folliage and the peace and serentity that I find there.

Child on the streets of Port Jefferson on a cold day

I was walking along the streets of Port Jefferson last winter and just enjoying the sights and sounds of this small picturesque of waterside village on Long Island.

I had already enjoyed the antique stores and art galleries, browsed through the clothing, jewelry and home boutiques and was taking a few moments to just enjoy the streets of this village. The streets of Port Jefferson are lovely to amble around and then there is the harbor!  WOW!  Breathtaking. Read the rest of this entry »

Fall colors start at Randall Pond

Well, in continuation of my ‘Year at Randall Pond’ I did a walk through in September with my camera.  For those who are interested, I use a Olympus E-410.  IT has proven to be a wonderful cameral to learn about appurature, lightening effects, shutter speed, etc … All without driving my poor little mind crazy.

Anyway, back to randall pond.  As the pictures show, the colors are beginning to change already.  Soon the trees will be in full fall colors - oranges, yellows, reds … At this time, just a few trees have changed - but that does not diminish the beauty of this area.

See all the pictures …
